Darbishire House

Phil acted as Ellis and Moore’s project director for the design of Peabody’s Darbishire House in their John Fisher Street Estate. The building, designed by Niall McGloughlin Architects, was a London RIBA award winner and a Stirling Prize finalist.

The development has a reinforced concrete flat slab structure on piled foundations. Much of the intricacies of the structure are buried underground where a Thames Water main sewer cuts under the building corner resulting in a large cantilevered foundation system.

The curved communal staircase is designed to appear to float off the surrounding curving reinforced concrete core walls.
