Hilton Hotel Ashford

Phil worked as project director for Ellis and Moore for the design of the new Hampton by Hilton hotel adjacent to the Eurostar terminal at Ashford, Kent. He undertook the scheme design and oversaw the detailed design of the structure.

The structure of the building comprised piled foundations with a reinforced concrete central core area for the full height of the building with a steel frame to first floor level. The steel frame supported six storeys of steel modular hotel frames, prefabricated in two room with connecting corridor volumetric sections. these were then clad externally with a steel frame provided over at roof level to provide roof falls and plant support. The main entrance has a curved feature beam at each level comprising a faceted steel box section spanning approximately 16m with bolted torsional supports to the concrete core walls.
